Hair
Loss Causes
1.
Hereditary- Heredity hair loss is the most common cause
of male and female pattern baldness. This condition is known
as androgenetic alopecia. For one with family history of
baldness, his hair's growth phase is shorter than the average
people, therefore hair would be genetically programmed to
fall out earlier. Men tend to lose hair in specific areas
such as receding frontal hairline in an "M" shape
and bald in crown area while Women generally experience
thinning hair over the top of the head or crown, while most
often maintaining a frontal hairline.
2. Alopecia Areata - In this type of hair loss, hair comes
out by the roots in one or more spots .This disease occurs
first during childhood or adults of any age. Sometimes it
is called patchy baldness. Although the exact cause is not
known, some experts believe Alopecia Areata may involve
an immunological disorder, which causes the body to produce
antibodies that attack the hair follicles. Treatments include
topical medications or pills in some cases.
3. Alopecia Areata Childbirth - After pregnancy, it is common
for women to experience temporary hair thinning. When a
woman is pregnant, her hairs will be growing. After she
gave birth to her baby, many hairs will re-enter the resting
phase of the hair cycle. Usually women will notice large
amounts of hair coming out in 2 to 3 months. But it is a
temporary condition, and as hormone levels in the body return
to pre-pregnancy levels after about six months, the excessive
shedding normally ends.
4. Diet Stimulates Excessive Sebum on the scalp –
Having too much red meat, fried or oily food would stimulate
sebum secretion all over the scalp. Excessive sebum causes
pore clogging and malnutrition of the hair follicles.
5. Stress and anxiety may result in sudden hair loss.
6. Frequent Usage of harsh Hair Care Products – Some
poor quality hair gel, mousse, sprays, etc. contain abrasive
chemicals, which can damage the hair follicles and lead
to hair loss.
7. Medications side effects: Some prescription drugs may
cause temporary hair shedding. Examples include some of
the medications: lithium; beta blockers; the "blood-thinners",
warfarin and heparin; amphetamines, etc., High doses of
vitamin A may also cause hair shedding. Some cancer treatments
can also cause sudden generalized hair loss
8. Fungus Infection on the Scalp - Caused by a ringworm,
it usually begins with small patches of scaling that can
spread and result in broken hair, redness, swelling, and
even oozing. Consult your doctor immediately and some oral
medication can help cure it.
